# Segment Integration (Alpha)

> Connect BuildBetter to Segment for unified data collection and analysis

Integrate BuildBetter with Segment to seamlessly collect, transform, and route your BuildBetter data to over 300 tools for analytics, marketing, and data warehousing.

## Setup Instructions

### Prerequisites

* An active BuildBetter account
* A Segment account with write key access
* Admin permissions in BuildBetter

### Connecting Segment

1. Go to **Settings → Integrations** in your BuildBetter dashboard
2. Select **Segment** from the analytics integrations section
3. Enter your Segment write key
4. Choose which events to track (or select "All Events")
5. Click **Connect** to activate the integration

### Configuring Destinations in Segment

After connecting BuildBetter to Segment:

1. Log in to your Segment dashboard
2. Go to **Sources** and find the BuildBetter source
3. Add and configure destinations (Google Analytics, Mixpanel, etc.)
4. Map BuildBetter events to your destination requirements
5. Enable the destinations to begin receiving data

## Usage

### Tracked Events

The following events from BuildBetter are tracked in Segment:

| Event Name             | Description                                 |
| ---------------------- | ------------------------------------------- |
| `Call Recorded`        | When a call recording is completed          |
| `Call Summary Created` | When an AI summary is generated             |
| `Document Generated`   | When a document is created from calls       |
| `Chat Interaction`     | When users interact with the AI chat        |
| `User Invited`         | When a new user is invited to the workspace |
| `Signal Created`       | When a signal is generated from call data   |
| `Folder Created`       | When a new organizational folder is created |

### Identity Resolution

BuildBetter sends the following user traits to Segment:

* User ID
* Email
* First and Last Name
* Organization Name
* Role
* Signup Date

### Custom Properties

You can configure additional custom properties to be sent with each event:

1. Go to **Settings → Integrations → Segment → Properties**
2. Select the events you want to customize
3. Add custom properties to include with each event
4. Save your configuration

## Troubleshooting

### Events Not Appearing in Segment

* Verify your Segment write key is correct
* Check that Segment source is not paused
* Ensure no API call limits have been reached

### Data Latency Issues

If there's a delay in events appearing:

* Check Segment's status page for any ongoing issues
* Verify your network connectivity
* Confirm destination settings in Segment

## Security and Compliance

* All data sent to Segment is encrypted in transit
* Consider using Segment's Privacy Portal for GDPR and CCPA compliance
* Review which sensitive data is being sent through this integration
